In this micro adventure, Mountain Brook – Jemison Park – Dogs, Butterflies and a Grist Mill? What?, I discover 2 worlds colliding!

Jemison Park is located in Mountain Brook, a suburb of Birmingham. Alabama. It’s almost like a Central Park for Mountain Brook with tons of hiking trails in the middle of a neighborhood!

Mtnbrook.org has this to say about Jemison Park: This 54-acre linear park designed for preservation as a green way, is used for walking, jogging, reading, bird watching, and enjoying a picnic. Visitors are able to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while strolling along Shades Creek. Owls, hawks, raccoons, and fox are among the animals residing in the area, along with abundant native plant species. The natural beauty of the area makes Jemison Park one of the most popular walking attractions in Mountain Brook. The one mile concrete trail connects with the Nature Trail and the Watkins Trace Trail. Because it is tied in with the City’s sidewalk system, it is easily accessible to residents. There are also several parking spaces along Mountain Brook Parkway for parking.

Jemison Park is very dog friendly and has everything nature has to offer in the middle of the city where 2 worlds have collided!

One of the highlights of this micro adventure was an old grist mill. While privately owned it’s a beautiful sight in the middle of the Mountain Brook area. Here’ what the hikingproject.com had to say about the old mill: This is a historic mill built by Robert Jemison Jr. who was also known as the “Father of Birmingham”. The mill is nearly 90 years old and once functioned as a tea room where people came to enjoy tea and soak up the scenery along the banks of Shades Creek. The mill is a picturesque spot, and when the leaves are green and the creek is running high, it makes a great spot for photos.

In today’s urban hiking micro adventure I will eat at the Depot Deli, interviewing a couple of men eating chicken fingers after getting off work… I’ll also interview the owner of Daysol Coffee Lab!

Urban Hiking in Old Town Helena was a blast that is a must do if you’re in the Birmingham, Alabama, area.

Old Town Helena offers, ice cream, restaurants, boutique shopping and a wonderful coffee house – just to name a few. Old Town Helena is also home of the Saturday Market and more!

In this micro adventure, Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park – Best video EVER Made of this Park!, I travel to Bessemer, Alabama to explore a State Park I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time.

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park lives up to the hype! Old cabins, an old church, beautiful streams, a grist mill, an old country story and soooo much more.

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park is located in Bessemer, Alabama just outside of Birmingham.

From their website – “Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park has more than 1,500 acres in three counties set aside for hiking, camping and outdoor recreation. A miniature railroad chugs through the pines. From spring through fall, the blacksmith, miller and craftsmen demonstrate their trades. Craft shops occupy restored pioneer cabins and artisans chat with visitors from their front porches. Steeped in history, Tannehill feels timeless. The cotton gin, pioneer farm and working gristmill preserve a long-gone way of life. Hiking trails retrace historic roadways. McFarland Park and the River Bottom Grille is located on the Tennessee River in Florence, Alabama.

The River Bottom Grille is actually a floating restaurant located in the Florence Harbor Marina!

A walking area is located around the River Bottom Grille and offers an opportunity to walk off a few calories from the fantastic meal you’ll get at the restaurant.

By the way, the servers were all stars this day! Kudos to all the staff at the River Bottom Grille in Florence, Alabama!
