According to Birminghamal.org – Five Points South, founded in 1893, is a walkable neighborhood with award-winning James Beard restaurants, historically significant architecture from homes to buildings and over 3900 households convenient to UAB and Downtown. The area is a popular living, shopping and recreational community, particularly influenced by its great dining establishments like Highlands Bar and Grill, Hot and Hot Fish Club, Bottega, Ocean, Jim N Nicks and Dreamland BBQ. Making Five Points South the “Food Hub” for the City of Birmingham. The Storyteller fountain by Birmingham artist Frank Fleming and The Hugh Martin Jr. House composure of Meet Me in St. Louis and Wish Me A Merry Christmas can be found within walking distance of each other. Urban Hiking in Old Town Helena was a blast that is a must do if you’re in the Birmingham, Alabama, area.

Old Town Helena offers, ice cream, restaurants, boutique shopping and a wonderful coffee house – just to name a few. Old Town Helena is also home of the Saturday Market and more!

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park lives up to the hype! Old cabins, an old church, beautiful streams, a grist mill, an old country story and soooo much more.

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park is located in Bessemer, Alabama just outside of Birmingham.

From their website – “Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park has more than 1,500 acres in three counties set aside for hiking, camping and outdoor recreation. A miniature railroad chugs through the pines. From spring through fall, the blacksmith, miller and craftsmen demonstrate their trades. Craft shops occupy restored pioneer cabins and artisans chat with visitors from their front porches. Steeped in history, Tannehill feels timeless. The cotton gin, pioneer farm and working gristmill preserve a long-gone way of life. Hiking trails retrace historic roadways. McFarland Park and the River Bottom Grille is located on the Tennessee River in Florence, Alabama.

The River Bottom Grille is actually a floating restaurant located in the Florence Harbor Marina!

A walking area is located around the River Bottom Grille and offers an opportunity to walk off a few calories from the fantastic meal you’ll get at the restaurant.

By the way, the servers were all stars this day! Kudos to all the staff at the River Bottom Grille in Florence, Alabama!
