In this Micro-Adventure, Solo Hiking Ep-5 – Dismals Canyon 1 – I got lost! Go figure!, I find myself traveling to Dismals Canyon in Northwest Alabama!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dismals Canyon is a federally designated National Natural Landmark. According to their website: Dismals Canyon – located in Northwest Alabama – is an 85 acre (34 ha) Nature Conservatory privately owned and operated. It is not a State Park or National Park. However, it was designated a “National Natural Landmark” in 1975 by the National Natural Landmarks Program. NNLs are administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solo Hiking in the Dismals Canyon proved to be a wonderful micro-adventure. The Dismals Canyon floor is known for its fauna, massive rock walls, waterfalls and it’s beautiful creek that runs beside the entire trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solo Hiking Dismals Canyon will take you as long as you’d like but is only 1 1\/2 miles long. But there is sooooo much to see in Dismals Canyon that it will take longer than your typical solo hike might.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dismals Canyon is also known for it’s glow worms! That’s right, worms that glow at night. In fact, Dismals Canyon offers nighttime hikes just to see the worms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you enjoy solo hiking or hiking in general, Dismals Canyon is a must do hike. It’s cool on the Canyon floor but can also be dark if the sun isn’t out, so be aware if you plan to take a lot of pictures or video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
