It’s been awhile since I wrote about alternative lifestyles.
This may be the only alternative lifestyle that I can actually support.
But this post probably isn’t what you were thinking!
But please keep reading!
I’ve been reading a book about the Why, How and What of leadership.
I know, I know, but it is really interesting – to me! I’m an egghead – I know! But It has left me asking those questions – you know, those like, why do I get up every morning? Why is it I do what I do? But not only that, it also drills into the “how” I do what I do.
Seriously, have you ever really drilled into your Why, enough to put it into a sentence?
I know that may sound confusing so let me break it down as its laid out in the book…
What – Every single company knows what they do
How – They also know how they do it.
But, very few know WHY they do it. In other words, what’s your purpose. Apple for instance is to challenge the status quo, they just happen to build and sell electronics.
Let’s go further:
Why – is just a belief.
How’s are the actions we take to realize that belief.
What – are the results of those actions.
As I have been working this out for myself I wonder if you’ve ever thought about it…
Let’s start with my why? Why do I get up every morning? What drives my passion? What is my purpose?
Why? The why for me at this point is this – I believe that Christ can transform lives and he can do that through me.
How – How does God see this accomplished through me? Through a lifestyle of Loving God, Loving Others and Serving.
What – Lives and Communities become better one person at a time.
So that made me realize that what I’m really talking about is a lifestyle! A lifestyle of Loving God, Loving Others and Serving.
Imagine what would happen if we all chose this Alternative Lifestyle of Loving God, Loving Others and Serving over the lifestyle we’re currently living?
Can you imagine the shift in your life when you wake every morning knowing this is your purpose, this is Why you get up everyday? Because what you once reserved for special occasions is now a lifestyle. That Loving God, Loving Others and Serving is no longer compartmentalized but it’s who you are? It’s embedded in your DNA!
But better yet, imagine the impact it would have on our community?
I want to encourage you to adopt this new Lifestyle – one where Loving God, Loving others and Serving IS your life.
Let this suggestion soak for a day or two and see if it’s one you want to pursue. I know I do – and have, to the best of my ability – some days are better than others though!
I encourage you to seriously think about it.
