We do this primarily through a program we call Full Tummy. Full Tummy is primarily based on what people literally bring each Sunday and whatever donations that can be made.
Because of the generosity of so many, we’ve taken on yet another school this year.
Here’s what we’re doing along with some startling statistics.
We’ve been asked to begin sending meal bags to a 6th school (Athens Middle School), but we can’t do that without the help of our entire congregation.
These simple meal bags mean so much to students who are at-risk for hunger that they often come to school on Fridays asking when they’ll be called to the office to get their Full Tummy bag.
Struggling families are so appreciative of the help from these meal bags that several have written thank you notes to the school counselors expressing their gratitude.
Currently, 61% of the students in K-6th grade receive free or reduced-price lunches at school.
Currently, there are 50 students in Athens City Schools who are homeless. Each of these students receives Full Tummy bags every weekend.
